Dear Friends, We are pleased to present you with this Spring edition of what we call "Rob's Report," Schron Associates' quarterly e-mail newsletter of issues, events and offers we think may be of interest to you. Here we discuss the state of the economy as it relates to incentive travel, highlight the historic city of Lyon, the capital of French gastronomy, detail some special Costa cruise offerings, and update you on what's in store for our 20th anniversary year. ------ CONTENTS ------ 1. Send Your Employees Packing: Why Now is the Right Time to Plan an Incentive Trip 2. Destination Focus: Lyon 3. Special Offers on Costa Theme Cruises 4. Celebrating 20 Years \-------------------------------------------------------/ 1. Send Your Employees Packing: Why Now is the Right Time to Plan an Incentive Trip The economic data has been bad, unemployment is rising and companies are under pressure to cut costs and save money. We suggest you send your employees packing…for an incentive trip! Why? As Rob recently explained to an interviewer from Successful Meetings magazine, when business is good and sales are booming, it is relatively easy for people to meet their objectives. We believe that a slowing economy creates more reasons for companies to offer incentive programs; to motivate employees to meet their goals in a challenging environment. While traditionally longer, the incentive period can be as short as a month or a quarter, and we at Schron Associates can help you put together an exciting 'long weekend' program at a unique venue in your area. A weekend at a downtown luxury hotel, local spa or golf resort, or a short cruise may be just the thing to reward your people for their efforts and energize them for future performance. If you want to increase your sales and maintain the loyalty of your people during a downturn, try getting rid of them -- on an incentive trip that they will work hard to earn, and make you look like a winner too! 2. Destination Focus: Lyon Recently we had an opportunity to visit Lyon, France's second city and the home of French gastronomy. Designated a World Heritage City by UNESCO, Lyon's history can be traced to ancient Roman times, when Caesar decided to situate the capital of the Gauls where the Rhone river meets the Saone in the shadow of the Alps. Today the city is a fine example of how the old and the new coexist in modern Europe. Home to the world-famous Beaujolais, 1,500 restaurants, and historic inns and chateaux, the city is also the center of the French pharmaceutical and chemical industries and offers modern business hotels, a spectacular convention center, and easy access by air, rail or road to other major European cities (there is also daily nonstop service to/from JFK). As such, Lyon is an excellent location for a European regional meeting or, perhaps combined with a visit to Paris, Provence, the Cote d'Azur or nearby Geneva, a unique incentive trip. Lyon is home to two of the fabled properties featured in "Hotel Gems of France," which Rob co-authored and edited. 3. Special Offers on Costa Theme Cruises Continuing our long relationship with Costa Cruise Lines (Cruising Italian Style), we are pleased to be able to offer some very special rates for both groups and individuals on two Western Caribbean theme cruises in December sailing from Ft. Lauderdale. Theme cruises are a popular choice for affinity groups, and in some cases are suitable for corporate incentives as well. For baseball fans, such Hall of Famers as Bob Feller, Earl Weaver, Vida Blue and Ferguson Jenkins will be onboard the beautiful CostaVictoria, rated 5-stars by Fielding's, for the December 2nd 7-night cruise calling at Key West, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman. Rates for outside staterooms start at $679.00 per person, double occupancy, plus $144.75 per person for taxes and port charges. For fans of Frank Sinatra, the December 9th sailing of the new CostaAtlantica, flagship of the Costa fleet, features a weeklong celebration of "Ol' Blue Eyes'" birthday with well-known Sinatra impressionist Sonny Petrillo. The cruise visits the same ports of call as the Victoria above, with rates for outside staterooms starting as low as $719.00 per person, double occupancy, plus taxes and port charges as above. Outside staterooms with private verandas are also available at $899.00 per person, double, plus port charges and taxes. We can also arrange low cost roundtrip airfare to these cruises. 4. Celebrating 20 Years As some of you may know, 2002 will mark our 20th year of providing quality meeting planning and group incentive travel services. As such, we have many exciting changes and new programs in store, and will be expanding our capabilities and geographic focus. We have recently added some sample programs to our website, www.schronassociates.com, and we also continue to make available our popular questionnaire to help clients plan and refine their programs. Despite our growth, rest assured that clients will continue to receive the high level of personalized service that they have come to expect from us, and will always deal directly with an owner/manager.
