Dear Friends,

Happy holidays! We are pleased to present you with this special year-end edition of what we call “Rob's Report,” Schron Associates’ quarterly e-mail newsletter of issues, events and offers we think may be of interest to you. Obviously, much has changed in the world since our last report, but many things haven’t, and we want to take this opportunity to assure you that it is business as usual here, not only in New York City but at Schron Associates as well.

We remain committed to supporting and working with our clients, as we have for 20 years. We also remain committed to our belief that there is no substitute for human contact and that personal relationships and a high level of service are the keys to a successful business. While these days many of you may be too busy to think about meetings and incentive trips, we want you to know that we are here to help whenever you need us. We would also like to remind you in this challenging time for our country that bringing people together in an enjoyable atmosphere builds morale, and that there are many fine venues –world-class resorts, conference centers, and hotels – all over America that also stand ready to serve you, so you can keep your people and your money right here in the USA. Lastly, we’re pleased to announce that our new brochure is now available. Please e-mail info@schronassociates.com or call us at 1-800-842-5050 if you would like one.

Sincerely,

The Schron Associates Newsletter Team

1. Business as usual (in NYC, and at Schron Associates too)

Despite the shocking and tragic events of September 11th, it’s business as usual here in New York City, and the city remains as vibrant and exciting a destination as ever. Under the leadership of Mayor Giuliani and Governor Pataki, several new initiatives have been launched to promote NYC tourism and to encourage people to come and see for themselves the “miracle” of the city. It’s also business as usual here at Schron Associates, and we would be pleased to put together an event for you here in our hometown.

2. Close to home for the holidays: Now is a good time to consider a local program

While understandably, some people may not want to venture too far from home at this challenging time, we want to remind you that there are many exciting meeting, event or incentive programs you can do right in your own back yard. In most cases we can arrange these programs within reasonable driving distances of where your people would be coming from. Reward your top performers with a weekend or overnight in a nearby city with accommodations in top downtown hotels, breakfast, sightseeing, theater tickets or tickets to a local event and dinners in gourmet restaurants. Meet at a local resort for a golf or spa weekend, and treat your people to their own tournament or perhaps a selection of spa treatments (i.e., a massage, facial, aromatherapy session, etc.), with private meals and entertainment on site. For example, if you’re in the midwest take your people to Chicago or a Great Lakes resort; if you’re in the southeast consider Atlanta or Myrtle Beach. Customized local programs such as these can be rewarding, relaxing, and remarkably cost-effective.

3. Bargains further afield: Visit those places you thought you couldn’t afford

For those willing to travel a bit further from home, bargains abound. Popular destinations in Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico are offering almost unheard of value. Cruise rates are particularly low and the major lines are moving ships to additional domestic ports to make it more convenient for the public to drive to ports of embarkation. In 2002 a number of major cruise lines will be offering sailings out of Galveston, Charleston, Norfolk, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Boston, in addition to the traditional Florida, California, New York, and Northwest ports. Now may be an excellent time to plan that trip to London or Maui or that incentive cruise you might not have thought was within reach of your budget. For more information on these cruises or planning a meeting or incentive in any of the destinations mentioned above, please contact us.

4. IT & ME 2001 wrap-up

Our first year exhibiting at the Incentive Travel & Meeting Executives Show at the Motivation Show in Chicago in October was a success, despite an understandably lower than ideal turnout. We had a chance to catch up with many current and former associates from around the world, and we made some new contacts too. It was also a fine opportunity to showcase our new brochure. Congratulations to all our contest winners, and for those who couldn’t make it, we hope to see you next year!

5. 20th anniversary in 2002

As we enter our 20th year, we remain true to the philosophy upon which our business was founded. As a customer-focused organization, perhaps this can best be illustrated today by this quote from Rob, as published in the November, 2001 issue of “The Meeting Professional:” “My idea of a dream client would be someone who, in this era of conference calls and videoconferencing, recognizes the value of bringing people together to interface as the most important reason for having a meeting (or incentive trip). It would help, too, if the client recognizes that you get what you pay for; understands quantity has nothing to do with quality; and places the responsibility for the meeting (or event) in the hands of a professional planner, substantially reducing the chances of Murphy’s Law being broken.”
